Spheric rigid Airship for Walrus project, driven by Diesel engines
Design: Wolfgang Seemann
Spherical airship made of fiber reinforced sandwich material.
Size 108 m diameter. Volume 640.000 m3, Surface 36.000 m2
Loading capacity 500 metric tons. Lifting capacity up to 750 metric tons at reduced travelling speed.
Powered by 4 Diesel engines with 6.000 kW each, driving four axial turbines, delivering
6.000 cubic meter of air per second at a speed of 300 m/s. Engines installed in the center of the airship, with pipes leading to two opposite points at the equator and two to the top and bottom of the airship. Turbines suck the air from one side of the ship and blow it out on the other side, creating a low pressure area in front of the ship and a high pressure area on the opposite side.
Advantages of this spheric airship:
Best ratio surface to volume, easy to control, dynamic starting and landing.
Usable for:
transport of heavy equipment ( up to 750 t).
Emergency supply into earthquake areas.
Firefighting in forest areas.
Military transport
Aircraft carrier
Freight carrier
Max speed 150 km/h
Fuel consumption at max. power 3.6 t/hour
This is the most powerful airship design worldwide available. But the best thing is, it can be built within three years. Working samples of the engines could be available within 6 month.
It will cost approx. 500 Million $ to develop the airship, including all the infrastructure for serial production. Price per airship in serial production less than 50 Mill. $.
